Greetings!
City dogs live in a manufactured world, the world that we humans created. They live behind walls disconnected from Mother Nature, and their caretakers are often stressed and anxious. Unfortunately, many of them spend so much time cooped up in our apartments and houses that they develop issues.
Rural dogs experience life as they were meant to live it. Where I come from in Mexico, the dogs received ample physical and psychological challenges, but in many cases, they didn't receive the affection and medical treatment they required. But in the United States, farm dogs are often able to benefit from experiencing the natural world and receiving love and care. They have a natural sense of purpose and experience more time off-leash. And I think that is wonderful!
Remember, dogs don't need to live in the country to be happy. If you are a city dweller, consider your dog's life. What is he missing that he would be getting in more natural surroundings? Even if he lives in a luxurious home with the most expensive food and toys, this can seem like jail if he's not able to explore the world outside.
But, of course, even rural dogs are not without their issues, so I'm offering some advice for country canines in this newsletter!
Stay calm and assertive!

Bravo on Advice for Country Dogs!
Glad to hear you are going to offer advice for our country dogs. We recently adopted 2 small Terriers, one is 3 yrs. old, the other 11 mos. The puppy is coming along just fine. The older 3 yr. old (Holly) lived in the city all her life and was never allowed off the leash. Here, none of our dogs are ever leashed except when a trip to the vet or groomer is required. Being a Cairn Terrier, she loves to run, hunt and explore. We have 25 acres mostly wooded and she absolutely loves living here. BUT, we also live somewhat close to town, and Holly has taken to leaving her "yard" to explore beyond the boundaries our other dogs (even the puppy) respect. I am unsure how to approach teaching Holly her new boundaries. Any ideas and expert advice would be appreciated! I love watching the show and learn much with each episode.
