Greetings!
In nature, dogs prefer to be outside. Sure, they have dens, but that's just so they can stay safe in bad weather. When it's clear out, you'll find them outside enjoying the sun, the shade, and the fresh air.
Dogs were not born to live behind walls. This is something we should honor every day if we can. During the winter months, this can become hard, but as spring begins, its time to renew your commitment to the daily walk! The walk is more than a bathroom break. It's about honoring the needs of another being. To me, this is key: I honor the animal, and that's why they honor me back.
I don't approach a dog thinking, "I'm here to train you." No, I'm there to fulfill the animal. I am there to find out what the animal needs. As you see on Dog Whisperer, my strategies vary, but no matter what the situation, it's about honoring who they are and how they are programmed to live their lives.
Animals don't care about fame, financial status, or a diploma. They care about living a balanced life. They don't need us to accomplish that - but we can stand in the way of that. So if you bring an animal into your life, consider this: are you honoring your animal's needs? Are you fulfilling the commitment you made when you adopted your dog?
A walk is not just about putting one foot in front of the other. It's about bonding with your canine. Honor your dog's needs today!
Stay calm and assertive
