Disinterested in the Walk
Dear Cesar, My dog is a 5-year-old Lab/Terrier mix. He’s always loved going to walks, but lately he seems disinterested in going. I’ve had to pull him out of the door to go for a walk and then he’ll sit down after we’ve gone one block and refuses to go another. Read more

Insecure on the Walk
Dear Cesar: I have a new Doberman named Burt. My problem is he is getting to know a lot of people in my neighborhood and now every time I pass someone I know on a walk, he insists on stopping and walking with them and refuses to go at my pace... even if I start to run ahead. Introducing a Puppy to Walk on a Leash
The one thing I find about training dogs is that there are no hard and fast rules. Some dogs take to a collar and leash easily and some do not. Some owners have to put their dogs on a leash the moment they get them—especially if they live in apartments and there are leash laws—and some may not put their dog on a leash for a few months. Behaviors to Avoid During the Walk
By Martin Deeley When going for a walk with my dogs, that is what I go to do – walk. Too often I see dog owners going out on a walk but the aim is to let the dog go to the bathroom. Now in some cases that may be the only way to do this as the owner lives in an apartment – but – the moment you begin to take your dog out and allow him to sniff at every lamp post, fire hydrant and tree, you are encouraging him to begin the habit of marking territory.
