Cesar Joins Katherine Heigl in her Launch of the Compassion Revolution

(Los Angeles, CA)- On Thursday, September 23, Cesar joined actress Katherine Heigl for The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation press conference at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills to kick off the The Compassion Revolution. The initiative pledged to give $1 million to various spay and neuter programs throughout southern California. The Cesar Millan Foundation has partnered with the movement in an effort to raise awareness about the growing homeless pet population and offer support to shelters locally and across the country.

“We are two packs working towards a common goal,” Cesar said of the initiative. “And we can make a difference!”

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation was created in honor of Nancy Heigl’s son and Katherine’s brother, Jason, who lost his life in a car accident in 1986. Jason was a lover of all animals, and his family has now channeled that passion into the rescue and care of homeless animals with Heigl’s “Hounds of Hope.”

In an effort to assist the continuing work of rescue organizations and shelters, The Compassion Revolution will focus on supporting free spay/neuter programs and the transportation of local Los Angeles shelter dogs at risk for euthanization to areas that have a high demand for adoptions, including Utah, Wyoming and New Hampshire. The initiative also plans to develop a complimentary training and pet care educational program for pet owners. Each class will cover topics such as integration of the pet into the family, positive reinforcement training, house breaking, and proper dog socialization.

Thursday’s event brought out the Hollywood Reporter, Access Hollywood, E! News, Extra, People magazine, local media, and various rescue, shelter, and city officials, including councilman Tony Cardenas, LA Animal Services’ Brenda Barnette, and Director of LA Animal Services, Marcia Mayeda.

Cesar’s moving Spay/Neuter Public Service Announcement was shown at the conference, which opened with a touching video the Heigl Foundation presented showing the impact rescue animals have in people’s lives, and to inspire compassion in others.

In an initial donation, Katherine Heigl presented councilman Tony Cardenas a check for $25,000 to continue the improvements in his district’s shelters and rescue programs. In addition, the Heigl Foundation plans to donate more than $200,000 this year towards various Southern California spay/neuter programs such as the Spay4LA mobile spay/neuter clinic and Downtown Dog Rescue for spay/neuter in the Compton area, via the AngelDogs Foundation mobile clinic.

As the Revolution continues to grow, Katherine and Cesar hope to establish Los Angeles as a strong “No Kill” example for other large cities to follow; and eventually, end the pet overpopulation problem all together.
