First Grade Classes Donate to the DEAR Fund
Still a little unsure of exactly what occurred in Japan, one young girl in the first grade class at Ringgold Primary School in Ringgold, GA exclaimed, "We really need to get some money for Japan after they got hit by that big salami!"

Teachers Mary Ann Bruce and Debra Hicks gathered their two first grade classes and taught the young students about the tragedy that occurred in Japan, clearly explaining all that had happened as a result of the earthquake and tsunami.
When the students collectively decided they wanted to do something to help people and dogs in need, they chose to support the DEAR Fund. And with their recent fundraising efforts, they will be doing just that.
“They learned that people's homes were washed away and that family members couldn't find each other because they got washed away, too,” said Mary Ann. “We talked about how people's pets were also washed away, lost, and needed help. I showed them the website and explained the DEAR Fund to them. They were so mesmerized by the pictures of Daddy!”
The class decided to have a bake sale to raise money for the cause. Parents and staff baked cookies, cupcakes and brownies and brought in a total of $510, half of which went to the Red Cross and the other to the DEAR Fund.
“They were very proud and worked very hard to learn how to count money and make change in preparation,” said Mary Ann.

We want to thank The Ringgold Primary School’s first grade classes for their support and dedication in helping those in need in Japan.
“These first graders have set an inspiring example for everyone, of all ages, to see the positive impact helping those in need can have,” said Cesar. “They are already pack leaders showing others the way.”
