RESCUE AND REHAB

Millan Foundation Grant Recipients Announced

The Millan foundation is happy to announce the recipients of the 2010 Millan Foundation Grant. With more than 70 submitted grant proposals from rescue organizations around the world, the Foundation narrowed down the entries to six exceptional organizations. Each group will utilize the funds for the expansion and/or continuation of programs that aid in the rescuing, rehabilitation, and re-homing of abused and abandoned dogs.

This year, the Foundation has awarded funds to the following organizations for their continued efforts in providing the highest standard of care for the homeless pet population.

Inter Actions: Established in November 2008, the French organization, Inter Actions, has educated the people of Bali on how to properly care for and maintain their overgrown dog population. Bali has seen a significant growth in stray dogs in recent years, and has struggled to maintain the nearly 500,000 roaming canines. Inter Actions plans to utilize their funding towards an extensive educational and sterilization campaign in order to prevent the continued growth of the stray dog population.

Friends For Life of Otsego County, Inc: Friends For Life of Otsego County, Inc has provided a low-cost spay/neuter program for the Otsego County since 2005. With the Millan Foundation grant, the organization hopes to maintain their current sterilization program and provide a more affordable option for pet owners.

Northwest Organization for Animal Help: Since 2003, N.O.A.H has rescued more than 8,000 dogs and cats, and has successfully altered more than 30,000 pets. In collaboration with various local shelters, the rescue plans to fund a free spay/neuter program for Seattle area Pit Bulls and help educate the public on the misunderstood breed.

Canine Adoption Rescue League: The Canine adoption Rescue League has successfully placed more than 3,300 dogs, including 22 Katrina dogs, in loving homes over the past 14 years. In an effort to continue their rescue work, the organization will be utilizing their grant funds towards providing for their increasing special needs cases with proper medical care and treatments.

K9 Connection: In an effort to help at-risk youth and the growing homeless pet population, K9 Connection has created an obedience training program that matches teens with abandoned dogs. The program allows at-risk youth the opportunity to work in a positive environment and be recognized for their efforts, while, in turn, helping shelter dogs become more sociable. The funds granted by the Millan Foundation will help with the continued support of this program.

Companion Animal Connection: The team at Companion Animal Connection has been running this no kill/rescue shelter for the past five years on the expansive five acre area in Georgia.

In that time, the organization has rescued and placed more than 1,000 dogs and cats into loving homes, and has helped maintain the pet population with their spay and neuter program. Companion Animal Connection will use this grant money to continue their efforts in maintaining the pet population in their area.

Congratulations to all the grant recipients! The Millan Foundation wishes you the best as you continue your important work and missions.
