When we interviewed Cesar about Daddy's senior years, his deep emotional bond with this 14 year-old pit bull was apparent. He shared thoughts on Daddy's current physical health, Junior's impact on his mental health, details on his very special way to roll in the grass, and how he himself copes with Daddy's aging.
Daddy is having more and more senior moments. He sometimes has trouble getting up, has to take bathroom breaks a little more often, and doesn't take the cold as well as he used to. He can't hear well, which is something that's been happening for a while. His sight is going. He has to open his eyes extremely wide. They almost look like a cats'!
But his appetite is great, and his nose is still fantastic. When we go for a walk, he spends more time than ever sniffing the ground. It used to be: smell flower, pee on it; smell flower, pee on it. Now he can spend 5 minutes taking in the scent of a single flower.
We still take him along on the pack walks, but where he used to be two or three feet behind me - because Daddy has always been medium level energy - now he is twenty feet behind. After about thirty minutes, he's done, and someone takes him back to the car to rest, while the younger generation continues on a longer trek.
Daddy has been receiving a lot of help from acupuncture and homeopathic treatments for his stress. In my career now, I have to travel a lot. When I go away, he can become disoriented and sad, which makes him a little tense. I am really glad that Junior came into his life. It has been very helpful. He keeps Daddy alert and young. "Come on, correct me! Come on, tell me what not to do!"
After this interview today, we're going to give Daddy a shower and clean his teeth. Then we'll go to his favorite spot in the park. He loves to roll in the grass - a lot of dogs do - but he has a special way to do it. He finds the highest place, then rolls down backwards. Just slides all the way down. Then he goes right back to do it again and again and again. He didn't do it in the snow, but he loves to do it in the grass. And of course, he likes to do it after he takes a shower, which I understand, but at the same time, it's like, come on Daddy! I just gave you a bath!
After that, he knows I am going to give him a nice, juicy, meaty bone. He just knows. He goes to his place, like 'this is next.' He knows exactly what I am going to do. He just knows me.
Daddy has always been a sweetheart. Many senior dogs lash out when someone accidentally bumps into them in a way that hurts. But Daddy just doesn't have it in his bones to respond with a bite, which is very unusual.
Daddy has been my kids' grandpa. He helped me raise them. We don't share much about the whole passing away thing. Right now, we're doing some Dog Whisperer segments about letting go. It's hard to hear, because you have to come to reality. To see someone as amazing as Daddy grow old - it's painful just to think about it. But I don't want to share that around him, because he's going to think, 'What are you worried about? I'm not gone yet!' But as humans, we anticipate things, and we get emotional at the wrong time. Of course, dogs have emotions, but they don't get emotional prior to the occasion. So I won't do it in front of him.

The passing of Daddy
I feel like perhaps I have been living under a rock for the last 6 months. I just learned today of Daddy's passing in February. I have to say, I was truly saddened by the loss. I read the information on line at work and cried like a baby. I can only imagine how Cesar and his family felt. I hope that anyone that has ever watched the Dog Whisperer and had the pleasure of seeing Daddy was as touched by such a wonderful dog. He has given the pit bull breed the respect it deserves. I only hope that Junior is half the wonderful friend that Daddy was. Only a pet lover knows the deep sadness one feels when a beloved friend passes away. May you have endless play time across the rainbow bridge, sweet boy!
RIP sweet Daddy
Dear Cesar and Family
I was deeply saddened by the news of Daddy's passing :o(
Daddy was a true ambassador for his breed and dogs in general...he was absolutely gorgeous!

Daddy
I am very sorry for the loss of Daddy - it is very obvious that Daddy had such a great impact on everyone he encountered. His lasting courage, boldness and discipline was always felt when he was on the shows. May his spirit comfort your daily activities and his memories strengthen your hearts. God Bless.
Daddy will always be remembered with love.
Dear Cesar and family, I am so sorry for your loss and I write this with tears in my eyes and an sadness in my heart. Daddy was truly such an engaging presence on your program. He was truly loved by so many. I wish you and your family strength and peace during this difficult time.
My family and I will always remember Daddy with love and admiration.
Hugs to you and yours.
Wow.
This is so touching. I'm crying as I write this. I can't ever fathom what it must be like loosing a companion as beautiful on the inside and out as Daddy. He is truely one of those "once in a lifetime" dogs.
There is Someone Waiting for You, Daddy
There aren't enough words to thank you, Daddy. You have been one of the finest Ambassadors for dogs and humans in many countries. I just want Daddy to know that after he crosses Rainbow Bridge, there will be a small Westie named "Sydney" waiting to play with him. Sydney was 18 when he crossed, and one day I hope to play with both of you. Cesar, thank you for sharing "God's Angel" with the world. It's pretty hard to find an animal lover who didn't know the kindness of a pitbull named "Daddy"! Your in our hearts and prayers, God Bless.
Condolencias
Te saluda a ti y a tu familia

Well...
I guess it's natural thing and everyone has to experience it sooner or later. You teach people to move on and you have the truth of it. Hardest thing to cling to your own wisdom sometimes though. But just look at all these people who feel you and it's beyond sympathy. There's a million lights inside that darkness that couldn't have been seen in broad daylight but there they are, ever shedding light upon these beautiful spirits that have radiated their love upon so many. To you, your wife, your sons and friends and family...I wish for you to come to peace with it and the strength to stand and face this pain. Sincerely,
Dirk

Big Daddy
Dear Cesar,
I'm writing this and crying at the same time for your loss. Daddy was and is a beautiful soul and I have no doubt that he was welcomed by many dog packs at the Rainbow Bridge, my pack being one of them. I think of them as whole, happy, full of energy and with that sparkle in their eyes.
My two dogs, Mandy & Ebony are 13 and 8 years old . I know that soon I will lose Mandy and I am sad, but for now she still has that playful, sly personality that has made her special. I love her every day as much as I can.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family, and thank you for allowing us to know and to love and finally, to miss Daddy. We'll meet again I have no doubt.
I love you Daddy, RIP
I am a great Fan of the Dog Whisperer. I watch the show alot, even the reruns. I have become more of a pack leader, after watching the show. It amazes me every time. I love it. When I first heard of Daddy's passing, I cried. I have tears right now. He was a great influence, and made a great impact as a dog owner. Especially, Pits. Anyway, I just want to say I am so SORRY for your loss Ceaser. We love you, and what you do. Thank you, for being a wonderful person. You Rock!
Daddy
R.I.P. Daddy
I am so proud of how daddy acted toward other dogs. I was readying the email that was sent out when I was playing with my four dogs. I have a pitbull as well and my dream is that he is as friendly as daddy. Ceasar I am sorry for your loss but happy that daddy was apart of your changes in so many families. He will live on through everyone he helped.
Dear Daddy: Thank you for Your Gifts
Dear Daddy: Thank you for your Gifts
Until I lost my beloved German shepherd, "Sybil Shepherd", I was unaware that my heart could hold so much pain. But a friend sent me the following quote which helped me learn to appreciate Sybil's gifts. I hope it helps you as well.
Grieve not
Nor think of me with tears,
But laugh
And talk to me as if I were beside you.
I loved you so…
‘Twas Heaven here with you --Isla Paschal Richardson
Daddy, Sybil Shepherd, and all the great canines we have loved and lost, will live ever in our hearts.
The one, the only, Daddy
I read the news about Daddy while waiting in line in the grocery store's cashier. I could not help it, I cried a little bit after the shock.
There is nothing in this life so far that have hit me as hard as the loss of my best friend six years ago. Only when someone gets to feel that unconditional love with such a wonderful creature, is when one can really understand living beings are connected by strong forces.
Daddy had a great life I am sure... Thank you Cesar for sharing with the world this great example of what a happy dog should be like!
Daddy's Spirit
I would like to extend my sincere sympathies on the loss of your beloved Daddy. No mere words can ease your grief but please know that your sadness is shared by many. His spirit will be with you always, watching over you. His love knows no bounds. You will see him in the eyes of the pack. He is a testament to the breed and to you.

Daddy
We just put our 14yr. old female pit down a few weeks ago. Her name was Catera, she is the absolute best dog we've ever own. Just like daddy, if you stepped on her tail or tripped over her she would never even turn to snap. She had a huge tumor which was cancer and it was the most difficult decision I ever had to make. We have a one year old pit named Sooby which we had since she was two months old. and she still has a long way to go before she's even remotely close to where Catera was but we love her. My five boys, Sooby and I are still morning the lose of her but we know she's in a better place now.. Roaming the heavenly fields with Daddy....
Sincerely,
The Archambault Family
Our hearts go out to the Millan family.
Dear Cesar and family, Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of Daddy. He was the perfect representative for the Pit Bull breed. We had a Pit Bull whom we lost at the age of 15 only days after Daddy passed. I know that they are running free and young again at the Rainbow Bridge. Sincerely, The O'Shea family
Dearest Cesar & Daddy
Cesar,I just found out about Daddy. I am so sorry. He was a wonderful dog, best friend and mentor. He's really going to be missed. I've had a stroke and you and Daddy have been such an inspiration to me. I miss him already. Thank you for all the help and Daddy for all the lessons I've learned from him. God's speed, and I love you and Daddy.

The loss of your friend
Daddy is and always will be a big part of The Dog Whisperer.I think of his big walk and the smile on his face and he lives forever in our hearts.
For Cesar n Family
First let me give you my condolences on the loss of the great Daddy, what a beautiful dog ... I lost my own Yorkie at age 16 n the loss is just the sadest thing to go thru ... I must admitt that I have always been afraid of Pitts, around my neighborhood too many young guys owned these strong dogs and would walk around and act like they were so tough... Sadly sumone in the neighborhood would get bit or chased and scared out of their wits... I was afraid to let my kids walk around outside... After Cesar came on tv I learned many things about Pitts and how gentle n kind they can be with the right owner n training... Wow that Daddy was a true testament to that... With the help of Cesar n Daddy and all the marvelous other Pitts he has in his pack I am now a lover of them ... Daddy rest in peace you amazing creature ... xoxox
For Cesar and Daddy
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

GOD BLESS DADDY
Our condolences to you, Cesar and your family. My husband started watching Dog Whisper when he got laid off last April. He instantly fell in love with Daddy. In May he started getting a little depressed over not workin and I had read that a small pet will help with the depression. So we went out and got a miniture dachund. We think she was used for breeding to sell her pups and she almost died giving birth to her first set of pups and therefore she was of no use to the people we got her from. At first sight my husband fell in love with her and she has been a life saver to us. If it had not been for your show, we probably would not have gone looking for a dog. Reeces is just now starting to act like a dog and is starting to play. There are times I really feel she is watching your show as she will sit on our lap and look at the TV just like she is watching it. My husband has used some ot the things you show and they have worked really well.
We will miss Daddy but I know it won't be half as much as you and your family will. God Bless and take care.
Daddy
My husband and I watch your show all the time. We have learned a few tricks to use on my daughter-in-laws pit. He responds well to the things we have tried. In fact, he even looks sort of like a younger Daddy. We have enjoyed watching Daddy and you and I especially enjoyed your 100th show. Daddy looked in fine spirits as if he just knew how great a day that was for you and everybody. I know the feeling of loosing a dear pet. I lost a cat to old age, also. There were times I could still hear her jumping up on the door screen to be let in the house. I heard this for 2 years until we moved. We will always remember Daddy with love and affection. Take care and God bless you and your family and, of course, the pack. Daddy's memory will live on forever.
Take care,
Ruth and John

The Passing of Daddy!
Cesar,
Our hearts and thoughts are with you man. Daddy was such an inspiration, that after we lost 3 pack members in 2009, we decided to rescue a 6 month old female Pit Bull, so Cecil would have another dog in the pack! Her name is Echo, and she is now 10 months old. We have been training her from the get-go with your methods, and of course, they are working! She has even gained Cecil's approval! I know Junior will not take the place of Daddy, nor be expected to; but, I'm sure he will make Daddy proud! (I'm crying)
Best to you and your pack!
Richard
Daddy
I just found out about Daddy today while watching Dog Whisperer. I feel so sad and my heart goes out to you in your loss, Dear Millan Family. Thank you, Cesar, for sharing Daddy with us. He was truly so special. I loved learning from him and about him. Losing these special loved ones is so hard to think about and even harder to experience. I do believe we will be reunited with them in the next life. My prayers go out to you. Thank you Daddy for all you have given. We will never forget you.
Cesar, I really feel for you
Cesar,
I really feel for you and your family. I lost my beloved 15 1/2 yr old border collie Nell, at the end of October to cancer. It's unbelievable how they creep into your heart and never leave. Thanks for showing the world the powerful link dog and humans can have. Daddy was a remarkable dog and was truly a teacher.
Bye, Daddy
May you live on forever in syndication.
Rest in Peace Big Daddy
Rainbow Bridge
When dogs go to Rainbow Bridge, these gentle creatures find there peace,as they are much loved.A place thats safe from hurt and pain, and where wounds and illness are all healed, where the fear is gone and times are clam and still.
Those dogs who were once cherished pets, have loving folks on earth who cared for them, cuddled then and knew a pet's worth can rest assure that one day that he will stand tall and proud, sniff the air and start to run, for my friend you have been found.
The best friend you ever had has been reunited with you once again and now the both of you can cross over to Rainbow Bridge and be together for an eternity.
God Bless Daddy we will meet again at Rainbow Bridge

We"ll never forget you, DADDY
Let's just say that on Friday's I would prepare my spot with Cary Grant, boxer boy, and watch Daddy do his thing. I can't stop crying. He was like one of the family. But his legecy will live on with Junior.
Precious Daddy
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of Daddy. No words can help the pain right now, I know. Daddy was a precious gift that you had the honor of having for so long. Thank you very much for sharing him with us all. We loved him also, like extended family. He is happily rolling down grassy hills and playing in mud now. We love you Daddy, thank you. We love you too Caeser. My prayers are with you.
Daddy
I wanted express my condolences Cesar and the Millan Family on the loss of Daddy. I have only started watching the Dog Whisperer in the last year or so. I could see right from the start how special of a dog he was and how special he was to you Cesar. I lost a dog 2 years ago and he is still a hard one to get over. He was my once in a life time. I have another dog that is just as special and she is going to be a eleven this year. I just don't know where all the time goes. I don't want to think of the time I will have to say good-bye to her. I am not looking forward to that. I just don't know how I will ever be able to extinquish life from a dog that loves it so much. She is 10 but she still has energy to burn, but she too is slowing down. I am trying my best to take good care of her and just enjoy her as long as I can. I think we humans who live with animals especially dogs have a unique opportunity to learn how to say good-bye to something you love and also learn to move on and open our hearts to another pet only to go through it all over again. I will miss seeing Daddy on the Dog Whisperer. I don't know if all dogs go the heaven but I think they sure should. I just make all my dogs a promise that I will never forget them and they will live our hearts forever. Once again I feel so bad for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I miss and love you so very much Daddy!!!
Daddy was always my favorite. I loved it when Cesar would use Daddy on the show. I'm still crying over him. Even though I know he is in a better place. Daddy, you will always be loved and missed more than you could possibly have known.
Goodbye Daddy!
With lots and lots of love,

Thanks for the Memories Daddy
There will never be another Daddy. But his work will carry on with Junior and Daddy will always have a spot in my heart. I do share your grief with you and your family. My faithful companion who helped me through depression, family deaths and never let me be alone, passed away just 3 days before her 14th birthday on February 24 of last year. She was a little pup when we got her as a stray. She was the most gentle 125 lb Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab ever. Like Daddy, she was smart, learned obiedence without much help. Cesar, do you believe in "The Rainbow Bridge?". It's a beautiful place we're our precious companions go after they pass. When they get there, the old are young again, the sick are cured and they wait until the day when we too pass. As we approach the Rainbow Bridge, our companions will run with joy to greet us and we shall be together for all eternity. I hope my Mischief and your Daddy are romping in the cool grass and being the best of friends. Bless them both for all those great memories. Thanks to you Cesar, I am a volunteer dog walker at our local shelter and studying your books to pursue a dream to save the dogs that are considered unadoptable. A trained shelter dog will get adopted, the untrained will be passed by. Thank you Cesar for all your work and for sharing your very special Daddy with us all. God Bless you and your family.
I miss and love you so very much Daddy!!!

Goodbye Daddy
I am so sad to hear Daddy passed away. I enjoyed watching him on your show and know you and your family loved him dearly. He will be missed.
I'm Sorry
I'm so sorry for your lose. Daddy was a great dog to watch. We too lost our oldest dog of 11yrs. Dogs bring great thing to our lives and we should be so lucky to have them. May God be with you and your family in this time of need. Keep up the great work you do. GOD BLESS Conni
Daddy
I am typing this crying about your loss of Daddy. It should give you great comfort that your tears are shared by so many who also loved Daddy. When I would be watching your show (which is ALL the time !) I would tell my husband about the shows troubled dog and he would always say " Okay, but where is Daddy?" When my own dog won't listened I would tell him "I'm going to call Cesar and Daddy!!" I just want to say to you and your entire family, that I am truly sorry, and I am sure that Junior will make Daddy proud...and he will look at you with the same trusting and loving eyes...Mary Crim
Daddy's passing
My heart hurts to learn of Daddy's passing. Daddy was wonderful and always warmed my heart when he was featured on your show. My condolences to you, Cesar, and your family as you grieve for Daddy. Certainly dogs like Daddy are a gift from God.
daddy the pitbull
this is indeed a very sad news. i just came from an overnight outing, it's actually our group's first anniversary (passion for pets) and we celebrated it in a resort with a swimming pool and of course our dogs were with us. we came back sunday evening and found out after opening my email that daddy's gone already.
my views about dogs really changed when i started watching your program, dog whisperer (it's not yet available here but i was able to access some of it in the internet. sorry for that but without these internet thing, i will never know about you and maybe up til now my dogs will not be as happy as they are today).
right now, i am always checking your site, and i also have 2 of your books. with all these things, and daddy as your ever loyal, calm submissive, handsome pitbull assistant, i will have a hard time to convince myself that he already said goodbye.
whenever i watch him, i am so amazed to the energy that he projects that affects other dogs and make everything cool and balance. he is no lassie or rin tin tin. what he was doing there was something huge, true and incredible.
i know that wherever he is today, i hope that those who have watch him will absorb his "teachings" and pass it on to their beloved pets. in that way he will always be remebered.
thank you daddy, we will sure miss you.
thank you cesar for sharing to us your great friend!

In Memory of Daddy
Dear Cesar and Family...I have had to watch as my own beloved furkids come across the time of transition. I have been very fortunate to know when they come to visit me and let me know that they are extremely happy. On one occasion my little mixed breed boy "Gizzy" had left us in the morning. We brought him home from the vet and I bathed & groomed him before he was picked up by Pets at Rest. Anyway, that night my Shepherd was in the bedroom asleep and my Collie Rough was in the lounge room on her bed asleep. All of a sudden my Collie sat up and was 'watching' something....her head was going from left to right and back again. My Shepherd came out to see what was going on. Then the both of their heads were going side by side together Ha ha....can you guess 'who' was with us? My little guy used to grab his squeeky bone and race around the lounge suite, through to the kitchen, dining room and back again...weaving in and out of the chairs. No-one had to say a word...we all knew that Gizzy was here to let us know that he was ok and was sooo full of energy after having a heart attack earlier in the day :) Daddy will let you know that he is with you, so keep an eye out for him. My story is one of many.
Daddy had A very Special Gift
All dogs are special but some dogs touch our hearts in ways we cannot explain. I believe Daddy was such a gift to you & all who had the pleasure of meeting him or just watching him on T.V. Daddy's energy was always calm and serene. In a strange way I thought of him like a mountain.? My deepest condolances. I know his presence will be greatly missed by both his two and four legged family.
We will miss you Daddy
Cesar and Family,
My sincere sympathy for you and your family, I always loved watching Daddy stroll into a house like he owned it. He was a great dog and he will be deeply missed.
