Like all K-P dogs, Belgian Malinois Taz is trained to respond to gunfire. So when a crackling fireworks display sent rockets popping and pinwheeling through his neighborhood on Sunday, July 4th, Santa Rosa Police Officer Mike Clark went to work, unaware of the difference! Security cameras caught Taz’s agitation and subsequent escape on film as he leapt both the four and a half-foot gate and the six-foot padlocked fence surrounding his yard. Officer Clark, returning home from a family barbeque to find his faithful partner missing, patrolled the streets until 4 a.m. in search of him. It was 7:30 a.m. the following morning before Taz was found, limping through the streets of Windsor by a Veterinary Technician working in Forestville, and was returned to a grateful Officer Clark. Taz is currently receiving some much-needed R&R before returning to work. CesarsWay.com wishes him a speedy recovery!

Taz’s story is a reminder to all that even the most trained dogs can have adverse reactions to stimuli like fireworks. Need a refresher course in this? Read Cesar’s tips for fireworks here.
