Shelter Is Looking For ‘Doggie Snugglers’ To Comfort Scared Animals

For those of you who love to cuddle dogs, there is an exciting new opportunity. An animal shelter in Tampa Bay, Florida is seeking an expert “dog snuggler” who can comfort frightened dogs.

The job position was opened up by the Human Society of Tampa Bay. The job is voluntary, so you won’t be getting paid for it. But, it does have its perks – mostly getting to work with shelter dogs and showing them lots of love.

The majority of the dogs have to be spayed or neutered, so the shelter staff is looking for volunteers to comfort the frightened animals while they go through their medical procedures – both before and after.

The position is open to all ages, but as the shelter’s official website states, those under 16 years old need to be accompanied by an adult. The shelter is looking for volunteers who are able commit to at least six months of volunteer work at the shelter before transitioning to cuddler. Plus, all volunteers are expected to help the staff keep the shelter clean and tidy.

In a January interview, Volunteer Liz McCoy commented to ABC, “It makes me emotional just thinking about it. Nothing happy brings animals through our doors. So, when volunteers come in to make things better, it’s just a moving thing to be a part of.”

If you’re living in the Tampa Bay area and want to give back to the animals in the shelter, then you should know that dog cuddler isn’t the only position that is open for applications. Other volunteer positions that are currently open to the public to get involved with are a dog playgroup assistant, a foster parent, a kennel assistant, animal driver, surgery assistant, and exam assistant.

So what are you waiting for? Go cuddle some doggies!
