Cesar Millan, all his family and friends, his staff and volunteers, and dog lovers all around the world today will mourn the passing of one of the most loyal, trusting, well-balanced, and influential pit bull ambassadors the world has ever known. Daddy, Cesar’s longtime friend and partner in canine rehabilitation, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday the 19th of February. He was sixteen years old.
He lived each day of those sixteen years happy and fulfilled as Cesar’s right-hand-“man,” helping to shape the behavior of entire generations of dogs by showing them the way to balance. He stood as champion for calm-submissive pit bulls everywhere, and was instrumental in helping to repair their image as violent, savage, uncontrollable beasts. He successfully battled cancer and weathered chemotherapy, and even got the opportunity to present at the 56th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards!
His name is now added to that honorable roster of dogs gone by whose influence is still felt today, and which includes some of Cesar’s beloved childhood heroes: "Rin-Tin-Tin." "Lassie." … "Daddy."
He has been immortalized by Dog Whisperer fans in all mediums, from painting, to photographs, to charcoal drawings and papier-mâché sculpture. And, of course, he lives on in his work, reflected in the balance and calm-submission of his protégé Junior, the countless animals to whom he was a positive role model, and in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him as a calm, sweet, and mellow example of a widely misunderstood breed.
In Loving Memory.
If you would like to honor Daddy’s memory and the contribution he made to improve the lives of other animals, you can make a donation to Daddy’s Emergency Animal Rescue Fund, which will provide assistance for dogs who are victims of abuse or violence, man-made disasters (hoarder and puppy mill rescues), and large-scale natural disasters (hurricanes, fires, and other natural catastrophes).
Please feel free to post your messages of condolence in the comments below.
If you don't see your post appear immediately, be patient! All comments must be approved before they are posted to the site, and the sympathetic response to the Millans' loss has been enormous. Be assured, your comment has been received and will go live shortly. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Gloria
HORRAY FOR DADDY
Dont be upset for daddy, he may of passed away but he had the best life a dog could have, the best care and treatment, hes not in any pain or suffering now and if I was a dog I would love to have ceasar for my owner, maybe in my next life lol, he will be sorely missed in the show but then all good actors are missed when not on the screen anymore and he was a brillent actor along side his co-star ceasar, Ceasar and your family, you should not grieve his loss but rejoice in the life you gave him and the happpiness he gave you, looking forward to further shows, regards

Daddy
Cesar y Flia.
Adelante Cesar, adelante manada! fuerte abrazo!
Loss of Daddy
Daddy wil always be remembered and honored by me as one of my "Pack". He has earned his position along with those other dogs of past, both public and private, who have shown the world what incredible creatures they are and how blessed we are to have them in our lives.
Daddy
I am sooo sorry to hear the news of Daddy passing on. I have been watching old episodes up here in Canada and only found he has passed on once searching the site for your live shows here. Daddy has been and inspiration. I have learned SOOOO much in your shows and with Daddy in training my min pin and am sad to see he has passed on. Ceaser, you truly are the best at what you do and because I have watched your shows and read your books I have a well balanced min pin...in fact, I took her for agility training and the trainer (who has a pack of 18 dogs, one being a min pin) said she is one of the best trained min pins she has ever seen! Thanks to you and Daddy thru the years. I look forward to Junior doing just as well. He is truly a handsome boy! We shall see you in London Ontario soon!

To a true friend
We have loved Daddy from the moment we saw him with Cesar in the show.
It was clear that he was very special to Cesar and his family. He was a member of the family, a true friend.
Play with angels big Daddy, we all miss you...
God Speed Big Daddy
I am so sadden by Daddy's death, but I know he had a great life. Because of him, I am a sponser of one of Michael Vick's pit bulls named Little Red. She will have a good life now she is away from the awful pit bull fights.
Rest in peace Daddy......See you on the other side of Rainbow Bridge!!!
Proud owner of 4 Rottweilers!!!!
Mary
We will miss Daddy
Cesar I am so sorry for Daddy. I watch your show everyday and I changed my mind about pitbulls. Ever since my dog was diagnosed with cancer in March 2010 I am so hooked on your show for some reason (beside being a great show.) I have a wonderful Chocolate lab who will be 10yrs old in October 2010 if he makes it. They only gave him 3 to 6 months to live. I did the whole thing you did for Daddy the Chemo. Coco even had open heart surgery (open the sac on his heart) to relieve the fluid surrounding his heart. He had only 3 chemo treatments because I could not go through it anymore after seeing him get sick on his third treatment and I had to drive 1 and 1/2 to the hospital for treatments and leave him there for 6 to 7 hours because it was a teaching hospital and they were always swamped. I hope he holds on long like Daddy but god can't work miracles. But if he is in any pain or agony I will do what is right for him. We are giving him the best life that he has always had but I am probably over doing it. He is my friend and my companion.
Gracias Daddy, Gracias Cesar
In Loving Memory-Big Daddy
Hi Cesar,
My deepest sympathy to you, your family and your staff in the loss of the one and only Big Daddy. He was such an inspiration to all of us who love dogs and such an example to all who blame the breed and not the owner.
I love your show. We watch it all the time and will miss Big Daddy. His kind, loving face is etched in our memories forever!

Daddy
Only just found out here in UK - so sorry for your loss. Until I watched the show i didn't even like dogs - now I know it is all about the owners rather than the breed. Daddy was a real representation of what a true friend a dog can be. RIP xxx
To One So Loved By All Across The Globe
To Ceasar and Family, and everyone who is part of The Dog Whisperer pack
Please accept my sincerest and most heartfelt condolences when I attempt to express my sorrow on the passing and terrible loss of "Big Daddy".
I believe that it is safe to say that we all, everyone, worldwide will miss him and will continue to love him, but whatever we feel can be nowhere close to the loss and great sadness that you and your family must be feeling and experiencing.
I cannot say that I know exactly what you must be feeling; I was only very young when my first dog passed on - a Maltese Poodle. My poodle just so happened to have been the victim of one of out Staffies.
But now, all these years later I still shed the odd tear when I think of my first dog. He will never be forgotten and he will always be loved and missed.
Now, all these years later, I have two Staffies of my own, my kids (yes, I know, they are not kids dressed up in furry little suits as per my first lesson from Cesar), and they are my life. The best I can do to attempt to feel your pain and loss is to imagine what I would be feeling should one of my staffies pass on and leave me behind.
I have two poems that I would like to share with everyone - they are not sad, nor reflective, but a much lighter, joyeous take on the pets we all adore so much. And so many of you will be able to identify with them (even if half the behaviour goes against Cesar's lessons). I decided on two "happier" poems because as someone mentioned earlier, we can immortalize our pets by remembering all the good times and great memories.
1) Memo To The Family Dog Or Cat
Dear Dog and Cat
When I say to move, it means to go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note that placing your paw in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that behaviour aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by Michael Schumacher and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the end of the corridor is not your objective. Tripping me up doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-size bed. I am sorry about this. Do not think that I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping. They can actually curl up into a ball.
It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximise space used is nothing but sarcasm.
My compact discs are not miniture frisbees.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from my bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered.
In addition, I have been using the bathroom for many years. Canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.
2. Notice To Visitors To Our Home
a) The dog lives here. You don't.
b) If you don't want the dog to be near you, stay off the furniture (that is why it is called "fur"-niture).
c) Yes, he has some disgusting habits. So do I, and so do you. What's your point?
d) OF COURSE he smells like a dog.
e) It's his nature to sniff your crotch. Please feel free to sniff his.
f) Don't be upset if he lifts his leg on your trousers, they probable smell like his favourite lamppost.
g) Quickly tell him how much you will donate to helping other stray animals, otherwise he might still bite you.
h) I like him a lot more tahn I like most people.
i) To you, he's a dog.To me he's an adopted child that is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. I have no problem with any of these things.
j) Dogs are better than kids. They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about whether they have the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a fortune for varsity, and you can sterilise them so they don't fall pregnant!
All that said, "Daddy" was and will forever be an inspiration to dog-lovers and owners.
We love and miss you "Daddy"
Lyndall, Zack and Zoe

Daddy's fans from Brazil
Hi Cesar,
I learned that Daddy passed away very recently and felt very sad... what an awesome companion he must have been!
The show (and Daddy's reputation) are becoming huge here in Brazil as well! Your work and Daddy's legacy have been very inspiring to all of us!
I would like to reiterate my fellow Brazilians' invitation for you to visit our country. I'm sure we'll benefit from all your wisdom and get inspired by your presence!
Kind regards,

Daddy the Great
I must admit that I was shocked to read that Daddy has passed away. I would like to express my respect to Cesar, Family, Crew of the Dog Wisperer and Redman. It is a great loss to your worlds, and that makes me very sad. I loved Daddy from a distance (Holland), he really was my Hero. Again, I am sorry for your loss, I am sure he waits for you at the great Oaktree in Heaven. Hal.
SAUDADE DE DADDY
Querido Cesar,
RIP Daddy
HI Cesar,
I am very sorry for Daddy. He was a great dog. Here in Romania he has a lot of admirers. Take care Junior
Dear Daddy
I am so sad to hear of Daddy's passing. I am a new convert to your show in South Africa and just fell in love with dear Daddy who showed me how amazing a dog can really be. Cesar, thanks for educating us and making the world a better place for dogs. After only watching 2 episodes of your show here, my unruly dogs have shown real changes since I became their pack leader. Daddy has changed our lives.
R.I.P. DADDY~~~WE LOVE YOU!!
I am soo very sorry to hear about the loss of Daddy, I knew this day would come, and I knew I would cry. Ever since I first saw the show he won my heart, love, respect and admiration. I think I was his #1 fan.
He always brought a smile to my face and joy in my heart.
I still rewind and replay segments of the show with Daddy in them over and over.
To Ceasar and your family, I am sorry for your loss, Daddy will be remembered forever, thank you for sharing him with all of us.
He is your new angel now, he will be adored always and forever.
Daddy
Daddy
Awww - may he rest in piece. Take care all you people who worked with him and especially you, Milan. We live in Holland, and I think 2 weeks ago we had the episode here on NGC in which Daddy was officially retiring. Me & my girl 'discovered' your show a few months ago and have not missed an episode since. We LOVED the times you brought in Daddy - such an impressive guy. I'm sure his spirit lives on in Jr.
Dogs like Daddy and Jr. make me want to have a dog around again...
Daddy
I just started watching the show about a month ago when we added a new puppy to our pack, and fell in love with Daddy...I just found out today that he passed away, my condolences, he was clearly a wonderful dog. I know that it is very painful to lose a beloved dog, my German Shepherd Maggie died three years ago at the age of nine and I still cry when I think of her. I am so sorry about Daddy but I know that you will remember all of the good times with him and keep his fond memory alive. God bless.

Good-by Daddy <3
Thank you Daddy for showing me the way to balance my life. You are my hero. I have Lyme Disease and it has not been easy for the past 25 years. When I saw you and Cesar on the show I knew in that instant what I had to do so I could be better for myself and my family. And I was right, you made my struggle so much easier. My life was saved by you Daddy and your balanced leader. Thank you for passing the baton to me, you are forever in my heart.

To Daddy's family...
Querida familia Millan.

Devastated
What a legend. It was therapeutic to watch Daddy. So solid in mind and body. An inspiration. We need to help create as many people and dogs like him as we can. .
A great great soul.

Daddy: we will miss you
We too started watching The Dog Whisperer only several weeks ago. Starting from episode one our heart was stolen by the charming pitbull Daddy, with his very own coolness and especially his "relaxing state of mind":)
It was with great sadness that we read about him passing away. Even though 16 years is an honourable age for his breed, loosing a friend always happens too soon...
Cesar, we wish you and your family the strength to help you through these challening times. Hopefully Daddy's legacy will live on in your pack and especially in Junior, who was trained by "professional" Daddy himself.
Best regards,
Elly

In Loving Memory for Daddy
Gabby
losing a beloved companion pet
Dear Cesar
My deepest sympathy to you on the loss of Daddy - he was America's dog.
I just graduated (I'm 59 years old) with my bachelor of Science education and my graduation present was to attend your presentation in Aspen, Colorado last week. I was thrilled.
When I lost my very first dog, Clippy (an Airdale)I read this poem in the newspaper. I still have the original copy.
Remembering
By Peggy Bialosky
We threw away the wicker bed
And gave away the ball,
We gathered up the leather leash
Then kept it after all.
Old dog was much too weary,
Hurt too much to run about,
He did not get up that morning,
His exhausted heart gave out.
And his eyes were closed forever
And his wagging tail was still.
Softly, softly in the springtime
He was buried on the hill.
Yet there still are times we see him
Sprinting toward us on the lawn;
If we kneel to call him to us,
Like a shadow he is gone.
I haven't had very many dogs (7) becasue they have all had a forever home with me (that was the way I was raised). I have alsways felt that one of the greatest gifts I can give my dogs is a gentle death when it was time. Most of my dogs have lived to 15 years and always let me know when it was time for me to let them go.
I have trained obedience dogs (and people) with great sucess (OK, not so much the people). I have a new rescue sheltie who is benefiting from your pack leader mentality. While all of my dogs have been well mannered and trained, you have made it much easier to start Sam (17 months) in the ways of a social dog. He is taking his certified therapy dog test in 2 weeks!
Sincerely,
Katherine W. Andreatta

Lo siento mucho!
Hola querido Cesar...
Fam. Canales.
daddy rest in peace in doggyheaven
i'm from the netherlands and I started watching the show a few months ago. I imidiatley fell inlove with Daddy and his wonderfull state of mind. Today I went on this site for the first time with a question vor cesar and browsing away on the site I discovered that my canine hero of all times has passed away.
mixed feelings are going through me. after crying for a few minutes my boyfriend said something that brings peace to my heart. Daddy has had a long wonderfull life and helped more dogs than I would have thought possible. he also is, for me, the icon of the breed. blame the owners, not the breed!!!! (in netherlands pitbulls aren't illegal anymore thank God)
I wish cesar a lot of strength in these time of sorrow.
I learned a lot from daddy.
Dolor....
Sad News
Im not sure if this poem has been posted yet, but I just found out about Daddy and wanted to share.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
