Journey of a Shelter Dog Part I

Every dog has its own story to tell. Whether it was born to a pure bred family on a sprawling suburban farm or walked the busy city streets as a stray, each dog comes to know a specific journey in a specific way.
Each year, six to eight million dogs enter the shelter system, with around four million of them never getting the opportunity to leave. We wanted to follow the journey of several shelter dogs to see exactly how the process works and shed some light on how the various shelter and rescue systems work.
Not every dog gets a home, but it is our goal to at least give them a story.

Meet Jessie…
Jessie at his first adoption eventJessie was brought to the attention of the Angel Paws Dog Rescue this past January by a couple who found him living under a concrete slab near their home. The couple was unable to bring a third dog into their already two-dog household due to apartment restrictions, so they called up the Angel Paws Dog Rescue for assistance.
Upon finding the Lab/Shepherd mix, the couple brought him to vet for a general exam. Jessie had been living with them for two months when the word came from their landlord to find a new home for the six-month old puppy or face eviction.
Angel Paws Dog Rescue functions as a foster rescue organization, relying on the homes of generous foster families for the care of homeless dogs. Jessie was placed with a family in Simi Valley, California and will now attend weekend adoption events until he finds his forever home. He was also just recently neutered, micro-chipped and received his rabies vaccinations.
Although a bit confused and disoriented on his first night in his new foster home, Jessie is doing great and is adjusting well to his new temporary pack.
Stay tuned to our running “Journey of a Shelter Dog” series to learn more about Jessie and several other shelter dogs!
