Dogs are intelligent creatures, and birds are too. So, it would make sense that when brought together, these two animals would find a way to communicate with one another, right? Well, in a strange little video, it would seem that there was one determined Cockatoo who was willing to try and become bilingual in order to take to its new friend.
The little Cockatoo named Brandy, had been living with her owners for 31 years at the time of the video. During that time, two years prior to the filming of the video, the owners had opened up their family to Chou Chou, a dog. Once it became clear to Brandy that this dog and her were to become friends, she decided that she was going to take up a new language.
And based off the adorable video, it would appear that her efforts paid off. Apparently, the Moluccan Cockatoo had become quite the connoisseur of the dog language, and whenever she wanted something from her canine companion, she would approach the pooch, smacking her beak. Once she had the dog’s full attention, then she would actually bark at the dog!
However, the jury was still out as to whether or not the dog could interpret what she was saying. But still, it was quite the adorable gesture. It was clear that at least the bird was making an effort to be friendly towards the dog by trying to speak the same language. Of course, this is something that comes a bit naturally to birds since they are animals who are pretty good at mimicking sounds – especially parrots. And cockatoos are an off-shoot of the parrot family, so it would make sense that Brandy would excel at sounding a bit more like Chou Chou.
