Sheepdog Puppy Herds A Flock Of Sheep Into His Owner’s Kitchen

Sheepdogs are quite clever animals. Prior to moving to Ireland, I spent a summer semester doing a study abroad course. In between classes, I did manage to fit in some pretty cool activities. One of the things that I remember was the Ring of Kerry tour that I did with my classmates. The southwest of Ireland had been experiencing some rather unusual weather, meaning it was sunny and dry – the perfect weather for seeing literally all the shades of green. But it also meant that at one of our stops along the road we were treated to a sheepdog demonstration. One farmer was kind enough to show us what his border collie could do. And it was impressive the number of verbal commands and hand signals that this dog understood. And he was able to herd the sheep without an issue. It was so cool to watch. In the end, this one dog managed to get around 20 sheep back into their pen without much of a fuss.

However, in a farm down in Devon, England a border collie did his sheepherding job a little too well. Rocky was just a seven-month-old sheepdog who decided that he was going to bring some friends into his owner’s farmhouse. Needless to say, the owner was particularly surprised on that specific morning when she turned around to see nine sheep inside her home.

As Rosalyn Edwards shared with The Telegraph, “I was in the kitchen and heard a noise. I turned around and the sheep were just standing there. There were about nine of them.”

The surprised owner soon figured out that the clever little Rocky had managed to get the sheep to follow him inside the home by herding them through a field gate that had been left open. Once inside the home, these sheep were less than stellar houseguests. While Rosalyn found the incident funny, she did note that animals were not the cleanest. In fact, she explained that the sheep had tracked in a lot of mud from outdoors. In addition, the sheep were not shy about answering nature’s call while inside. Rosalyn said, “It took me a little while to clean it all up.”

The owner did share her experience on Facebook, writing, “Rocky the sheepdog, brought a whole new meaning to ‘bringing the sheep home!’” Hopefully Rocky didn’t make a habit of bringing his friends inside Rosalyn’s home.
